Space operations veteran and former Deputy Director of the National Space Defense Center joins Argo as VP, National Security Solutions to drive integration of Argo's space mobility and logistics with U.S. national security needs.
Los Angeles, CA - August 5, 2025 - Argo Space is excited to announce the addition of Colonel Kevin Amsden, U.S. Space Force (retired) to our leadership team. Col. Amsden joins as VP of National Security Solutions, where he will drive alignment and integration of Argo’s revolutionary space movement and maneuver capabilities with U.S. national security customer requirements, helping effectively operationalize cutting-edge commercial space technology to serve mission-critical defense applications.
With over 25 years of space operations experience, Col. Amsden brings a deep understanding of both the technical challenges and operational requirements of defense and intelligence space missions, including space domain awareness, research & development, satellite command and control, and orbital warfare. He recently served as Deputy Director of the National Space Defense Center (NSDC) for the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), and as Executive Officer to the Commander of U.S. Space Command.
"Having worked extensively with the nation's premier reusable space systems, including the Space Shuttle and X-37B spaceplane, I was immediately drawn to Argo's innovative approach to space transport using water as fuel and their ambitious vision for sustained operations from LEO to GEO to cislunar space," said Amsden. "What sets Argo apart is their potential to deliver more deltaV capability than any spacecraft I've encountered in my career, combined with the operational advantages of water-based propulsion over traditional toxic fuels like hydrazine. This technology represents a fundamental shift in how we approach space mobility and logistics."
He holds a Master of Military Operational Art and Science from Air University, a Master of Science in Space Studies from the University of North Dakota, and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Physics/Astronomy from Brigham Young University. His numerous awards include the National Aeronautic Association's Collier Trophy for X-37B operations (the same award given to the Apollo 11 crew), the Air and Space Forces Association's Best Space Operations Crew and recognition from NASA, the NRO, and the Department of Defense for exceptional performance in space operations.
Argo is committed to building a world-class team to deliver transformative space capabilities to both commercial and government customers. The U.S. government is actively pursuing integration of commercial space capabilities into national security missions. Col. Amsden’s addition positions Argo to demonstrate the unique value our refuellable, water-based spacecraft and orbital logistics can provide to the market, and will ensure our solutions provide relevant, effective, transformative capability to the U.S. government.
